                                            PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST

VSOA By-Laws mandate the completion of a physical fitness test in order to be an active member for the year and officiate games in the fall season. The following fitness test is similar to the test used by the NISOA in 2016 (college soccer officials). NISOA officials may meet this VSOA fitness requirement by taking the NISOA test.

The purpose of the test is to provide VSOA members with feedback on their physical fitness level and motivation to improve. This test may be used by assignors to partially determine who may be appropriate to work which games. The assignors or their designee(s) will be responsible for conducting the test and recording results.

All three tests described below must be completed on the same day. The test may not be repeated more than once on the same day.

TEST #1 THE TWELVE (12) MINUTE RUN

A--------------------------------Cone---------------------------------B

                 50 meters                                 50 meters

A twelve minute run performed up-and-back on a field with extra distance at each end to allow for safe turns. A cone at the 50-meter mark. Referees running toward the 50-meter cone are given no additional distance. Referees who have run past the 50-meter cone but not to the end line are given 0.5 lap. Referees who have completed half a lap but are not yet past the 50-meter cone are given 0.5 lap. Referees who have passed the 50-meter cone on the way to completing a lap are considered to have completed that 200-meter lap.

TEST #2 THE AR 50-METER AGILITY TEST

               5 meters                     10 meters

X     A-----------------C------------------------------------B

Using a designated starting point (X) the referee:

Using a running start from X to A, the referee shall run from A to B (15 meters).

At point B the referee shall transition to a side step left 10 meters to point C.

At point C side step right and return to point B.

Transition to a sprint and run from point B back to point A.

TEST #3 THE 40-METER SPRINT REPEAT TEST

                                         40 METERS

X                   A----------------------------------------------B

Using a designated starting point (X) the referee:

Uses a running start to sprint from point A to point B (40 meters)

Walks back from point B to point X

Repeat six sprints in under the allotted time.

If a referee slips, falls, or fails to meet the required time during a sprint one additional attempt may be added ( a 7th sprint). If the referee fails to meet the required time a second time the test is terminated.
